About the Festival
The Festival of Architecture and Design (FAD) is an emerging, community-based event that celebrates and promotes the role of South Australian architects and designers locally, nationally and internationally.
The Festival held bi-annually in October presents a fun, engaging and informative program of architecture and design talks, forums, exhibitions, performing arts, children’s activities, guided walking tours and the SPACE: Tours through Architecture program.
History of the Festival
The SA Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects first presented the inaugural Festival of Architecture and Design (FAD) in October 2014 with a program of twelve (12) events across five (5) days attracting over 1,200 attendees.
The Creative Directors for 2014 were Dino Vrynios, Anthony Balsamo with Leah Salamon joining the team for the 2015 Festival.
In 2015, the Australian Institute of Architects welcomed new Festival Presenting Partners, the Design Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, which together represented South Australia’s creative community of architects, landscape architects, and designers including interior, fashion, furniture, industrial, graphic design and visual communication.
The program increased to over 40 events held in October 2015, exploring the theme of ‘Life on the Edge’. The Festival events attracted over 4,500 attendees and a social media reach of 88,350.
The Festival has demonstrated significant growth in its establishment phase and the potential to become part of the fabric of our diverse and vibrant festival culture. The aim is for the Festival to contribute to the State’s spring calendar of events, which in return supports our economy and tourism.
