Archi-Films: Utopia London
In collaboration with the DADo film society of the Robin Boyd Foundation in Melbourne, enjoy a screening of two short films and the feature film Utopia London, followed by a informal discussion from guest speakers, who will share their own unique perspectives on the film subjects to kick off the conversation.
About the films:
Straight and True (short film)
Directed by Naomi Bishops and Richard Raber, 2013 (9:19 mins)
Originally conceived as a feature film, then a documentary series and now, due to its immense scope (covering mid-century domestic architecture in every major Australian city), a multi-platform transmedia project. This is a teaser film for “Straight and True”, the story of how a generation of young Australian architects and their clients attempted to change the way we live.
Bless You (short film)
Directed by Philip Watts, 2012, (1:30 mins)
An architect in the skies grows bored of his creation and decides to spice things up a bit in the Melbourne CBD.
Directed by Tom Cordell, 2010 (82 mins)
There was a time when London united around the vision of a better future. A group of young idealists were fusing science and art to build and egalitarian city. Utopia London is director Tom Cordell's journey in film through the city he grew up in, meeting the architects who designed it, and reuniting them with the buildings they created.
About DADo:
DADo is the film society of the Robin Boyd Foundation. We aim to promote a wider community appreciation and engagement with design by showcasing the best in documentaries and films on architecture, design and urbanism from around the world. Some films are imported into Australia exclusively for our screenings, others are classic favourites. Guest speakers are invited to each of our screenings to kick off the conversation with their unique perspective on the film subject.
Our regular film season screens at Walsh St, formerly Robin Boyd’s own home in Melbourne and now home to the Boyd
Foundation. Find out more about our programme here: http://robinboyd.org.au/dado/
